Career Tips
Here we have collected some simple tips that may be useful for you when you are looking for a job and preparing for an interview.
Application and CV
A CLEAR CV
A CV should give a complete picture of all education and work experience, including keywords about the main tasks in the positions you have held. Remember clear start and end dates, and list the most recent experience first. Feel free to include relevant courses and any positions, and write briefly about your key qualifications and which characteristics describe you.
A CV should be a maximum of one to two pages.
A COMPELLING COVER LETTER
A cover letter should not be a repetition of your CV, but instead focus on why you choose to apply for the position and what qualifications, characteristics and experience you have that make the company choose you. We recommend that the application letter is a maximum of one page.
CUSTOMISE AND PROOF READ
Read the job advertisement carefully and adapt your CV and cover letter to the most important key factors in the position. Remember to proofread the text to avoid spelling mistakes.
LAYOUT AND DISPOSITION IS IMPORTANT
With clear headings, a consistent font and a structured layout, your CV and application will be easy to understand.
CONTACT INFORMATION AND PHOTO
Remember to include clear contact information that makes it easy to get in touch with you.
If you are in a position, we recommend that you use a private email account, and if you choose to include a picture, it is important that it is neutral and adapted to the type of position you are applying for.
Preparations for the interview
READ ABOUT THE COMPANY
Familiarise yourself with the job advertisement and read up on the company you are applying to. Here you can find valuable information about what is valued and considered important. Feel free to prepare some good questions in advance.
THINK IT THROUGH
Think through your strengths and weaknesses, motivation for the job and what you can add to the position.
BE PRECISE
Be there on time and make sure you take account of unforeseen events. Check the location in advance if you are unsure of it. If the accident happens and you are delayed, we recommend that you have contact information available so that you can call to let us know.
OUTFIT
First impressions are important and we recommend that you dress appropriately for the position and company you are applying for.
During the interview
BE AWARE OF YOUR BODY LANGUAGE
Around 80% of our communication takes place through our body language. Therefore, be aware of the following:
- A firm handshake
- Eye contact
- Avoid sitting with your arms crossed
- Show interest
BE ACTIVE AND ASK QUESTIONS
Show interest in the position and the company by asking questions. At the same time, make sure that you leave the conduct of the interview to the person interviewing you. Feel free to bring something to take notes with.
ANSWER WHAT YOU ARE ASKED ABOUT AND REMEMBER TO LISTEN
Avoid long discussions and complicated explanations. Ask the person to ask the question again if you are unsure of what is being asked. The main objective of the interview is to find out whether you will enjoy the position and the business, whether they will enjoy working with you and whether you will succeed in the job. Be honest and sincere in your answers.
